### 21.31 Session 21 (cont.): the three pager emitters patched + the spec
Closes the cross-repo loop §21.30 left open — there were no conforming pagers, so every real pager fell
back to raw. The handshake is now defined in the spec and emitted by all three reference pagers:
- **spec** (`diff-line-metadata-osc-spec.md`, this repo, commit `323b8224e`): new §4.4 defines the
version-only handshake record (`ESC ] 1717 ; <version> ST`, no further fields), emitted first; §6 notes it
precedes the per-line records. A host distinguishes it from a per-line record by field count.
- **delta** (`/Users/stk/Stk/Dev/Builds/delta`): emit the handshake at the top of `delta()` before
consuming the diff; flushes via the normal-return writer drop. + a `handshake_for_version` unit test.
- **difftastic** (`/Users/stk/Stk/Dev/Builds/difftastic`): emit once (a `std::sync::Once`) at the top of
`print_diff_result`, **explicitly flushed** (difftastic exits via `process::exit`, which skips the
implicit flush — without it the lone handshake of an empty-diff probe is lost). + a unit test.
- **diff-so-fancy** (`/Users/stk/Stk/Dev/Builds/diff-so-fancy`): emit before the main stdin loop;
`osc_records` test helper now skips the handshake so the per-line assertions are unchanged, + two new
bats tests (handshake first; handshake on an empty diff).
Each was verified manually to emit `\x1b]1717` on the *exact* empty-input invocation the lazygit probe
uses (delta/diff-so-fancy on empty stdin; difftastic via the 7-arg git diff-driver convention on two empty
temp files), and to stay byte-silent without `EMIT_OSC1717_METADATA`. So the lazygit probe
(`ProbePagerEmitsDiffMetadata`, which greps that invocation's output for `\x1b]1717`) now classifies all
three as **supported** — no raw fallback, stage on their pretty output via the per-line metadata (#2). The
delta/difftastic binaries must be **rebuilt** for this to take effect (`cargo build`); diff-so-fancy is a
script. The full real-pager render+stage in lazygit remains the interactive sign-off (CI still can't run a
patched pager; it covers the unsupported path via `cat -n` and the supported path via the conforming-pager
fake from §21.30).
