Stefan Haller 88811e6795 Remove the RefreshMode field
With sync vs async now derived from the calling thread, the Mode field
and its SYNC/ASYNC constants no longer carry any information: Refresh is
always async, RefreshFromWorker always sync. Drop the field, the type,
and the Mode argument at every call site, and reduce the debug log's
mode name to a plain sync/async derived from calledFromWorker.

Stefan Haller 67b0a6b1a4 Move the pull-patch panel close and focus off the worker
The pull-patch-into-new-commit handlers closed the commit-message panel
and, on success, pushed the local-commits context from inside the
WithWaitingStatus worker. Close the panel in OnConfirm before
dispatching (UI thread), and bounce the post-rebase context push through
OnUIThread, keeping it on the success path.

Stefan Haller eb95ae15f3 Capture the custom-patch handlers' commit reads on the UI thread
These handlers dispatch their rebase to a worker via WithWaitingStatus
but read Model().Commits (and, for move-to-selected-commit, the selected
line index) from inside that worker, racing the UI thread's model
writes. Read them on the UI thread before dispatching and close over the
results.

getPatchCommitIndex stays as-is: moving its call out of the worker makes
its own Model().Commits read UI-thread-bound too, so the identical copy
in patch_building_controller.go needs no matching signature change.

The two pull-patch-into-new-commit handlers still push a context and
close the commit-message panel from the worker; those writes are a
separate concern, left for a follow-up.

Stefan Haller 22a508fdba Add menuKey helper to reduce noise on menu item literals
Constructing a menu item key from a literal character requires
gocui.NewKeyRune('r'), which is a bit noisy. Add a private menuKey helper in
both the controllers and helpers packages so the common case in either reads as
menuKey('r'). Duplicating the one-liner is cheaper than a cross-package import
dependency and avoids forcing every controller file to qualify the call.

The reason for doing this now is that we are going to change MenuItem.Key to a
slice of keys later in the branch, which means we'd have to add `[]gocui.Key{`
at each call site, making them even more noisy. With the menuKey helper we can
just change its signature and leave all clients unchanged.

Stefan Haller 64996d12d9 Add Key type
This bundles the keyName and a rune, so that we don't have to pass these around

Stefan Haller 196e0a3c17 Copy gocui files into lazygit repo under pkg/gocui
I copied all files except dot files (.github and .gitignore), the _examples
folder, and go.mod/go.sum.

At some point we may want to copy the files back to the gocui repo when other
clients (e.g. lazydocker) want to use the newer versions of them.

Stefan Haller 2b65bee675 Remove redundant CantPatchWhileRebasingError checks in handlers
We don't add the commands to the menu when we're rebasing, so it's pointless to
check this in the handlers.

I guess alternatively we could add all commands always, and strike out the ones
that are not applicable using DisabledReasons. But we don't usually do this in
menus (except the global keybindings menu).

Stefan Haller 40cc008a5a Avoid auto-stashing when only submodules are out of date
Stashing doesn't affect submodules, so if you have a working copy that has
out-of-date submodules but no other changes, and then you revert or paste a
commit (or invoke one of the many other lazygit commands that auto-stash, e.g.
undo), lazygit would previously try to stash changes (which did nothing, but
also didn't return an error), perform the operation, and then pop the stash
again. If no stashes existed before, then this would only cause a confusing
error popup ("error: refs/stash@{0} is not a valid reference"), but if there
were stashes, this would try to pop the newest one of these, which is very
undesirable and confusing.

Stefan Haller 3df894ec92 Stage affected unstaged files when applying or reverting a patch
Unlike moving a patch to the index, applying or reverting a patch didn't
auto-stash, which means that applying a patch when there's a modified (but
unstaged) file in the working tree would error out with the message "error:
file1: does not match index", regardless of whether those modifications conflict
with the patch or not.

To fix this, we *could* add auto-stashing like we do for the "move patch to
index" command. However, in this case we rather simply stage the affected files
(after asking for confirmation). This has a few advantages:

- it only changes the staging state of those files that are contained in the
patch (whereas auto-stashing always changes all files to unstaged)
- it doesn't unnecessarily show a confirmation if none of the modified files are
affected by the patch
- if the patch conflicts with the modified files, the conflicts were "backwards"
("ours" was the patch, "theirs" the modified file); it is more logical if "ours"
is the current state of the file, and "theirs" is the patch.

It's a little unfortunate that the behavior isn't exactly the same as for "move
patch to index", but for that one we do need the auto-stash because of the
rebase that runs behind the scenes.

Stefan Haller d82852a909 Change Refresh to not return an error
Refresh is one of those functions that shouldn't require error handling (similar
to triggering a redraw of the UI, see
https://github.com/jesseduffield/lazygit/issues/3887).

As far as I see, the only reason why Refresh can currently return an error is
that the Then function returns one. The actual refresh errors, e.g. from the git
calls that are made to fetch data, are already logged and swallowed. Most of the
Then functions do only UI stuff such as selecting a list item, and always return
nil; there's only one that can return an error (updating the rebase todo file in
LocalCommitsController.startInteractiveRebaseWithEdit); it's not a critical
error if this fails, it is only used for setting rebase todo items to "edit"
when you start an interactive rebase by pressing 'e' on a range selection of
commits. We simply log this error instead of returning it.

Stefan Haller ca05a2ccea Enable revive linter, and fix a bunch of warnings
I took the set of enabled checks from revive's recommended configuration [1],
and removed some that I didn't like. There might be other useful checks in
revive that we might want to enable, but this is a nice improvement already.

The bulk of the changes here are removing unnecessary else statements after
returns, but there are a few others too.

Stefan Haller b3215a750c Cleanup: get rid of the variadic parameter of ContextMgr.Push

Stefan Haller d4ef8e53d5 Remove return value of Alert/Confirm/Prompt

because it needs an extra line for an explicit `return nil`. I still prefer
this, because it makes it clearer which calls can return errors.

Stefan Haller 22dc7fece9 Have only one of commit message and description on the context stack at a time
This is how we do it for confirmation with suggestions too, so be consistent. It
will make things easier later in this branch if we only have one context per
"panel" on the stack, even if the panel consists of two views.

Concretely this means:
- only push the message context onto the stack when opening the panel (this
requires making the description view visible manually; we do the same for
  suggestions)
- when switching between message and description, use ReplaceContext rather than
  PushContext

Stefan Haller 4cd15a36e3 Fix custom patch operations on added files
Several custom patch commands on parts of an added file would fail with the
confusing error message "error: new file XXX depends on old contents". These
were dropping the custom patch from the original commit, moving the patch to a
new commit, moving it to a later commit, or moving it to the index.

We fix this by converting the patch header from an added file to a diff against
an empty file. We do this not just for the purpose of applying the patch, but
also for rendering it and copying it to the clip board. I'm not sure it matters
much in these cases, but it does feel more correct for a filtered patch to be
presented this way.

Jesse Duffield 7bddf53223 Improve keybinding descriptions
This adds a bunch of tooltips to keybindings and updates some keybinding descriptions (i.e. labels).

It's in preparation for displaying more keybindings on-screen (in the bottom right of the screen),
and so due in part to laziness it shortens some descriptions so that we don't need to manage both
a short and long description (for on-screen vs in-menu). Nonetheless I've added a ShortDescription
field for when we do want to have both a short and long description.

You'll notice that some keybindings I deemed unworthy of the options view have longer descriptions,
because I could get away with it.

Jesse Duffield 51fb82d6bf Enforce single-item selection in various actions

We're using the GetDisabledReason field to enforce this (as well as DisabledReason
on menu items).

Jesse Duffield 6b9390409e Use an interface for tasks instead of a concrete struct
By using an interface for tasks we can use a fake implementation in tests with extra methods
2023-07-10 17:12:21 +10:00
Jesse Duffield 14ecc15e71 Use first class task objects instead of global counter
The global counter approach is easy to understand but it's brittle and depends on implicit behaviour that is not very discoverable.

With a global counter, if any goroutine accidentally decrements the counter twice, we'll think lazygit is idle when it's actually busy.
Likewise if a goroutine accidentally increments the counter twice we'll think lazygit is busy when it's actually idle.
With the new approach we have a map of tasks where each task can either be busy or not. We create a new task and add it to the map
when we spawn a worker goroutine (among other things) and we remove it once the task is done.

The task can also be paused and continued for situations where we switch back and forth between running a program and asking for user
input.

In order for this to work with `git push` (and other commands that require credentials) we need to obtain the task from gocui when
we create the worker goroutine, and then pass it along to the commands package to pause/continue the task as required. This is
MUCH more discoverable than the old approach which just decremented and incremented the global counter from within the commands package,
but it's at the cost of expanding some function signatures (arguably a good thing).

Likewise, whenever you want to call WithWaitingStatus or WithLoaderPanel the callback will now have access to the task for pausing/
continuing. We only need to actually make use of this functionality in a couple of places so it's a high price to pay, but I don't
know if I want to introduce a WithWaitingStatusTask and WithLoaderPanelTask function (open to suggestions).

Jesse Duffield d772c9f1d4 Use sentence case everywhere
We have not been good at consistent casing so far. Now we use 'Sentence case' everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

Also Removing 'Lc' prefix from i18n field names: the 'Lc' stood for lowercase but now that everything
is in 'Sentence case' there's no need for the distinction.

I've got a couple lower case things I've kept: namely, things that show up in parentheses.
